Library seeks candidates for Board of Trustees:
The Madrid Public Library is seeking applicants for a position on the Library Board of Trustees. Currently our open position is for an applicant that resides within the Madrid city limits. By Iowa law, library boards must be gender balanced. Applicants must be able to attend monthly meetings. Meetings are held at 5:30 pm to 7 pm on the second Tuesday of the month. Trustees are expected to participate in library activities when needed during the year.
The Board of Trustees is the governing and policy-making board for the Madrid Public Library. Trustees are responsible for the library budget, advocating for the library in the community, overseeing the general operation of the library and monitor its effectiveness, establishing policies and helping in the library’s strategic planning. Board positions are voluntary and residents chosen to fill them are selected to serve six year terms. There is no compensation for this position.
Trustee duties include: attend meetings, read board minutes and other materials sent out before a meeting, become informed about library operations, serve on committees when needed, become acquainted with library services, be an advocate for the library and participate in 3 to 5 hours of board training each year.

The applications will be reviewed by the current board of trustees, final candidates will be recommended for appointment by the mayor and the city council. This process will remain open until a new trustee is selected.
