2020’s Fire Prevention Week is held from October 4th through October 10th and the topic this year is “Serve Up Fire Safety in the Kitchen”. Normally, Madrid Fire and Rescue would visit the elementary schools and preschools, but with the current COVID-19 situation we are unable to do so this year.
According to the National Fire Protection Association, cooking is the leading cause of home fires and home fire injuries in the United States. Almost half (44%) of reported home fires started in the kitchen, and two-thirds (66%) of home cooking fires start with the ignition of food or other cooking materials.”
We are asking that families in our community to talk to your children about the dangers of cooking in the kitchen. Attached is a link for families to visit with your kids.
Wishing everyone in the community a Safe Fire Prevention Week! From Fire Chief Randy Pecenka and the rest of the Madrid Fire and Rescue crew!
