Community Visioning Project Volunteers Needed!

Visionary and Strategic Thinkers Needed!

Are you interested in helping create a safer community for pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists? Would you like to work with others in the community who share similar goals? Would you like to help find solutions with the help of ISU professionals? If you can answer yes to any of these questions, your help is needed.

The Iowa Living Roadways Community Visioning program is a joint project of the Iowa DOT, Trees Forever, and Iowa State University Extension and Outreach. Community Visioning is a process that encourages visionary and yet strategic thinking about transportation improvements. The centerpiece of this process is the development of conceptual plans that graphically illustrate the vision of the community for an improved transportation system.

The Madrid Visioning Coalition (City of Madrid, Friends of the High Trestle Trail, Madrid Area Chamber, Madrid Historical Society, Madrid Lions Club) is applying for the Iowa Living Roadways Community Visioning for this coming year. We need individuals to participate in a Community Visioning Project Steering Committee to look at safe transportation interactions near the trail and Highway 17 as well as improving connections in all parts of town, especially between residential areas and schools.

We need between 8 to 15 volunteers to serve on the Steering Committee, if our Visioning application is approved. Meetings would start in early October, and the project would be completed by September 2020. Volunteers are asked to commit approximately 100 hours to this project over 11 months, which would consist of participating in meetings, work groups and site visits to develop specific recommendations. Meetings will be scheduled by the committee and every effort will be made to make them as convenient as possible.

Volunteers should represent a cross section of the community, including youth. We are looking for new faces as well as experienced volunteers.

If you are interested in being part of the Madrid Community Visioning Steering Committee please sign up at Madrid City Hall no later than August 28 at 4:30 pm.
