Any library employee has the power to ask a person to leave for the day or to ban a person for one week.  The director is the only person with the power to ban a patron for longer than a week or more.

When a patron is asked to leave for a day expulsion, an explanation of how long the expulsion will be must be communicated to the patron.  Also remind the patron that the expulsion includes not only inside the building but also on library property.

Staff is to note anyone that has been asked to leave, also noting how long they are not allowed to be at the library.

If staff is having issues with a group, when you give the warning, inform the entire group that everyone will be asked to leave; efforts will not be made to determine the instigator.

If a child has been asked to leave but is to stay at the library because of weather conditions or there are no parents at home they are to stay in the front lobby of the library.

If a problem arises and is not listed on the behavior procedures sheet, then the librarian on staff at the time will select the appropriate consequences for the offense, if a problem calls for police assistance, the staff member has the discretion to do so, but must also contact the director and report the incident to him/her.

If a patron continues to repeat the same behaviors frequently then the director has the authority to extend expulsion time limits.  Also the director will send a letter to minor children’s parents explaining the repeating behavior.
