Hello Madrid Elementary Families

As road construction west of the school comes to a close, we want to thank you for your flexibility.  We have been notified by the City that the road will open on Thursday, October 31 at 10:00 am.  To continue with smooth drop off and pick up, we want to put together a plan that will maintain safety for all students and ensure efficient drop off and dismissal.  A few items to share:

A Change in Release times

  • Car Riders and Bus Riders will be dismissed at 3:00.
  • Walkers will be dismissed at 3:10.

Water Street will CONTINUE to be One Way from 7:30am-8:30am and 2:30pm-3:30pm

Thanks to City support, Water Street will be a one-way road from West 21st Street to Highway 210 from 7:30am-8:30am and 2:30pm-3:30pm.  The one way will continue to run from north to south.  Car riders will be dismissed on the east side of the building. We ask that you continue to use Water Street when picking up and dropping off students, as car riders.  We are asking that there is no drop off or pick up at the west side of the building.

Bus Loading Area
The bus loading area will be at the south side of Main Street with the buses loading at the cutout that is next to the building. Signs will be posted in this area. There will be no parking and no drop off in this area.  The buses need access to transport students and shuttles before school, during school and after school.  Buses also need an area to park for junior high sporting events. Bus students will be dismissed out the west side of the building.

Dropping off Students in the Mornings

Drop off in the mornings will be on the east side of the building.  Students should not be dropped off before 7:55am, unless eating breakfast, which begins at 7:50am.  Since Water Street will be one way from 7:30am-8:30am, families will approach the playground and building on Water Street from the north using 21st Street or 22nd Street so they are heading south on Water Street and their passenger door is to the playground and school for drop off.

  • Students not eating breakfast should be dropped off at the east gate of the playground.
  • Students eating breakfast should be dropped off at the main office door to go up to the cafeteria. We encourage students to be in their classrooms at 8:10.

Picking Students Up After School

If your child is a car rider and you are meeting your child after school for pick up, plan to meet them on the east side of the school. Water Street will be one way from 2:30-3:30pm.  It will be very helpful and probably quicker to park one to two blocks away.  Some preferred roads would be State Street from 22nd Street to 2nd Street; Union Street from 22nd Street to 2nd Street; and North Market Street.

Crosswalk supervision will continue to be on the east side of the school. The supervision will be at the corner of Water Street and Highway 210, and at the mid-block crossing on Water Street.  Both wheeled stop signs will be used in their normal locations on Highway 210. Walkers will be allowed to exit the building using both the east and west exits.

Finally, if you meet your students on the grounds, we are asking that you meet them in the grassy area to the southeast of the building. If the grassy area is muddy or snowy, we ask that you would still meet on the east side on the sidewalk, where supervision is located.

Thank you!

Thank you for your flexibility and continued support with drop off and dismissal. Safety is of the utmost concern and we believe our plan will keep all students safe. We will communicate any adjustments with a letter home and through an Infinite Campus message.
